The photo collages in the Reconstruction series are both a physical process of reassembling photographs that were partially destroyed and the reconstruction of an event of painful importance. Rearranging pieces of images related to the layers of the body creates a transformed body that exists between the physical and the ethereal. Implied in the fragmentation and recombination is the question of how the body knows itself beyond the intellect and the role that pain plays in the awareness of existence. The visual evocation of the wound serves as a dual draw both into the body and out toward the universe, implying a subtext of violence within the peculiar beauty of the body's interior and the numinous beauty of the night sky.
